Study Time Calculator
Study Time Calculator
Plan weekly study hours from credit load using a study multiplier.
Results update as you type.
How to use
Enter credit hours, a study multiplier (often 2 or 3 hours per credit), and days per week you will study. Read weekly hours and hours per study day.
Formula
weekly hours = credits × multiplier hours per day = weekly hours ÷ study days
Worked example
- 15 credits × 2 hours per credit ÷ 5 days → 30 hours per week, 6 hours per study day.
Assumptions
- The multiplier is a rule of thumb, not a guarantee.
- Lab, studio, and reading-heavy courses may need more time.
FAQs
- What multiplier should I use?
- Many colleges suggest about 2 hours outside class per credit. Use 3 for heavy terms.
- Does this include class time?
- No. It estimates study outside scheduled class meetings.
- How do I plan around work?
- Set study days to the days you actually have free, then see if hours per day are realistic.
- Can this set my grade target?
- No. Pair it with Final Grade or GPA tools when you are tracking scores.
