How to Count Business Days Between Two Dates

Business days are the weekdays in a date range, minus holidays. The Business Days Calculator counts them for any range and can also add business days to a date to find a deadline.

Steps

1. Count every calendar day in the range, including the start and end dates.
2. Take away Saturdays and Sundays.
3. Take away holidays that fall on a weekday.

Example

October 1 to October 31, 2026 has 31 days. Nine of them are weekend days, and Columbus Day falls on Monday, October 12. That leaves 21 business days.

Holidays on a weekend

A US federal holiday that falls on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before, and one that falls on a Sunday is observed on the Monday after. In 2027, Christmas and New Year’s Day both fall on Saturdays, so they are observed on Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31.

Adding business days

To find a date 3 business days after Wednesday, November 25, 2026, start counting on the next day and skip Thanksgiving and the weekend. The answer is Tuesday, December 1.
