What do I need on my final exam?

If you know your current grade and how much the final counts, you can work out the exact score you need. The Final Grade Calculator does the math and also shows your best and worst possible class grade.

Formula

needed = (target – current × (1 – weight)) ÷ weight, with the weight written as a decimal (25% is 0.25).

Worked examples

• Current grade 88%, target 90%, final worth 25%: (90 – 88 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = 96%. A perfect final would give you 91%.
• Current grade 85%, target 90%, final worth 20%: you would need 110%, so 90% is out of reach without extra credit. The best you can finish with is 88%.

Things that change the answer
